The recent "boycott" initiated by Tijuana citizens to avoid crossing the border and shopping in the US, so as the devaluation of the Mexican peso against the dollar added to the recent decisions made of the White House by President Donald Trump; had a direct impact on San Ysidro businesses where sales declined by 50%.
The main businesses affected by this where the ones that sale clothes and "Duty Free"; shared the Executive Director of the San Ysidro Chamber of Commerce, Jason Wells.
Merchants on the other side of the border have perceived a change on what the population likes; now you can find in Mexico similar products to those previously found only in San Ysidro.
Wells also said that an important point on why the sales lower; is due to the recent manifestations "El Chaparral" on several occasions, affecting those who wanted to come from Tijuana but did not for fear of not knowing if they would find a departure upon their return.
"Here in the Cali-Baja region it is understood that we should not hurt our neighbor and there are other ways to protest," he said.
