From the concept they handle, the service they offer, but mainly for the quality of their food, these are our Best Breakfast / Brunch Spots 2016 nominees.
Here are the nominees for best Baja breakfast spot:
1.- Casa Marcelo
Talking about Casa Marcelo is talking about Ensenada and its culinary attributes. Its base is intimately linked with the world-renowned cheeses called Ramonetti de Ojos Negros, a product that fuses with the highest quality in breakfasts.

Fresh products from the region and dishes based on a wide range of cheeses, when combined, create unique food, delicious, and is served in a convenient environment so you feel you're eating breakfast from the comfort of your home.

Casa Marcelo came to the center of Ensenada offering a fresh proposal, we can see the special culinary movement that Ensenada has highlighted in recent years. One of the objectives of Casa Marcelo is to offer its visitors substantial dishes, at considerable cost without losing the great flavors that dignify the city.
Remember, not everything is about the Valley of Guadalupe, you can go to the city and find these culinary treasures.

2.- Criollo Taco Stand
Although its name can remind us to another type of establishment, believe it, what is cooked here is a very special proposal. They do not just offer breakfast, but also they are open until late.

Even though they only have a few months in Ensenada since the opening, Taqueria Criollo, has exceeded expectations, their proposals at the beginning leave us wondering whether to experiment or not to delight them. But we can only tell you something, do it!

But what makes it different from other restaurants? As we said before, their delicious chilaquiles torta, substantial, full of flavor and with the possibility of being able to accompany it with some stew among a wide variety, and accompanied with eggs.
Their proposal of "Tacos Montados" is great. In addition, their sauces are the perfect complement. And if you think they are not innovative, we challenge you to try the agua chile torta, or the tamal wrapped in chile poblano.

3.- Mantequilla
If we go to the basics,"Mantequilla" is the champion because it reinvents breakfasts as simple as French Toast, and presents them in a way so authentic that it has earned titles such as the best French Toast in the city of Tijuana.

Let's face it, we are getting to the point where Tijuana is getting saturated with food spaces, so standing out among the sea of "new" proposals is increasingly difficult. Due to this, a place like "Mantequilla" is more than welcome. This brunch space was born as a complement to the Japanese restaurant Saketori-Ya (another of the nominees this year), Mantequilla has become an entity of its own and has become a must for all those who want a quality breakfast, but always with that touch Homemade that sometimes is lost at the time of going out to eat.

4.- Vieko
Chilaquiles are part of the traditional Mexican breakfast, but since Vieko appeared in the culinary scene of Tijuana and Baja California we had something very clear, sometimes the simplest is the most effective, as long as it is done with quality and a touch of originality. Vieko is a clear example of this with its chilaquiles, served in a box of Chinese food.

What makes them notorious is the consistency of tortillas, and their sauces (particularly their secret sauce), which makes them the perfect choice to start the day with something full of gourmet options, homemade breakfast, and fast food. There is no reason not to enjoy something delicious, practical and economical during your work week (or almost daily if you are like the San Diego Red Team).

If chilaquiles are not your thing, Vieko also has other equally creative options that range from quesadillas con carne or chicharrón burritos, always with their original touch. Vieko is proof that to do something exquisite it does not need to be pretentious or invest a lot of money, it is simply having good ideas.

5.- Oryx Capital
Oryx Capital might not seem like the best option for breakfast, especially considering its concept of bar and more focused food for dinner, but fortunately on weekends they know that people want to "rehabilitate" from the previous night and they offer a unique brunch which lasts from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. .

Again, the simplicity is what makes them stand out, since among their options of breakfast they go from serving classic eggs on chilaquiles to one of the best birrias of the city of Tijuana, which is not like nothing that you have tasted in the street, and is definitely the dish to try at Oryx Capital. Economical and very generous.

6.- Restaurant San Miguel
Located in Playas de Tijuana, almost on the corner of Paseo Playas Tijuana with Parque Azteca Avenue, San Miguel Restaurant mixes a bit of everything in terms of the style of breakfasts. From experiments with chilaquiles to "traditional" waffles but with a more European style than the American one we are used to at the border. With a modern decor, it is a good option for those who love breakfast food.

7.- Bresca Cafe
At the corner of Constitution and 6th Street, you can find a place for breakfast, brunch and food where previously were several bars that did not survive the year. Bresca has managed to avoid this curse thanks to a quality in its food, interior design and good prices (although once we went it suffered from poor staff and slow service, but we know it is not common). Bresca has some traditional offers of a good Mexican breakfast and the recently popular brunch.

They even have chicken and waffles, for anyone who like this American food but do not know where to find it at the South of the border. Of course, you can also enjoy your selection of espresso coffees and other beverages such as teas, lemonade or even hot chocolate.
