A new spot in Tijuana is quickly stealing the hearts of readers, coffee lovers, and anyone in search of a charming spot. Its name is Bunko, and while it presents itself as a bookstore, it’s much more than that: it’s a space where books and the aroma of fresh coffee intertwine to create a unique experience.
Bunko, a place straight out of a movie
From the moment you step inside, Bunko wraps you in an atmosphere reminiscent of those cozy autumn films where warmth and inspiration fill every corner. Shelves are lined with everything from popular bestsellers to surprising, unconventional finds, while the scent of freshly brewed coffee guides your steps.
On our visit, we couldn’t resist a vanilla chai and a creamy latte, both carefully prepared and available with a variety of plant-based milks. Each sip felt like a warm embrace —the perfect companion to flipping through the pages of a good book.
More than coffee and books
We spoke with Vanessa Félix, the mind and heart behind Bunko, who shared that the space was born from a desire to create a meeting point for coffee and literature lovers. But her vision goes further: Bunko will host writing workshops, art exhibits, and book presentations, making it a true cultural hub.
The patio, brimming with plants, wooden benches, and welcoming tables, invites you to linger and let the hours slip away in conversation, reading, and laughter.
A warm welcome from the start
Bunko opened its doors just last Saturday, and from day one the response was overwhelming: so many visitors came by that several drinks sold out, along with multiple titles by both local and international authors.
In a city that rarely sees concepts like this come to life, Bunko promises to become a favorite spot for those seeking a place where stories and coffee meet to create memorable moments.
Where to find Bunko
Bunko is located at Avenida Revolución 1651-8, in downtown Tijuana, Baja California. From the city center, it’s about an 11-minute drive or a 31-minute walk. Open daily until 9:00 p.m., it’s the perfect place to enjoy a coffee and a good book before night falls.
