MEXICO CITY.- Mexican President Felipe Calderón and the virtual winner of the presidential elections Enrique Peña Nieto met today at the presidential residence of Los Pinos to have their first interview after the elections of last July 01.

The Presidency stated in a press release that, in the meeting, Calderón and Peña Nieto talked about a variety of topics from the national agenda from which they focused on economy, politics, security and social issues.

They also agreed that, once the jurisdictional process regarding the presidential elections ends and the Upper Chamber of the Electoral Court of the Federation Judiciary (TEPJF in Spanish) declares Enrique Peña Nieto the official President Elect, they will launch an "orderly process of administrative as well as political transition".

"President Calderón assured that the Government of the Republic will offer the needed support so that said process will go on efficiently, in an open manner and in entire compliance with the law", stated the document.

According to the data found by the official analysis of the elections, Peña Nieto, representative of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), won with 38.21% of the votes, while the leftwing candidate, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, was left in second place with 31.59% of the ballots.

These results are pending the decision of the TEPJF, institution that, before August 31, has to revise the request to contest the elections presented by the left wing alliance represented by López Obrador.
