If you believe virtually any dish can be improved with a slice of avocado, a major California tradition is gearing up for its return. The California Avocado Festival will host its 2026 edition from October 2 through October 4, bringing three days of food, live entertainment, and community competitions to the coastal town of Carpinteria.

Drawing more than 80,000 visitors annually, the Avocado Festival celebrates classic avocado dishes while also showcasing creative culinary innovations designed to push the fruit well beyond standard guacamole.

Who Makes the Best Guacamole?

A focal point of the weekend is the best guacamole contest, where local chefs and enthusiasts put their secret recipes to the test.

Attendees can also view entries in the largest avocado contest alongside a wide selection of artisanal food vendors.

A Premier Free Music Event

Beyond the food, the Avocado Festival serves as one of the largest free music events in California. The 2026 lineup features over 75 musical acts performing across four stages, providing continuous live entertainment throughout the three-day event.

Bring Your Puppy!

Designed to be fully community- and pet-friendly, the Avocado Festival offers free dog daycare services for visitors attending with their pets.

Historically, the festival’s lineup has also featured quirky, theme-appropriate entertainment, including special screenings of the 1989 cult film Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death.
