The Federal Consumer Agency (PROFECO) reveals every week basic basket prices of the different regions of the country. This occurs during Mexican President’s, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, morning press conference where the head of this institution, Ricardo Sheffield Padilla shares with the audience his weekly results.
On Monday May 30th, he shared that the National Index of Consumer Prices has begun to stabilize, and there has been an overall decrease in high basic basket prices. Meanwhile, the index of low prices has also shown a graphical stabilization, without a significant increase or decrease.
Regarding basic basket prices, it was revealed that the Calimax in Zona Río, located at Blvd. Cuauhtémoc and Paseo de los Héroes 1250, next to Glorieta Cuauhtémoc, is the most expensive supermarket in Baja California as it is selling these products at a total price of $1,126.75 pesos. It should be noted that these elements are analyzed and studied in all of the country’s supermarkets.
This total cost ranks Calimax as the fifth most expensive supermarket in the country’s northern region zone which includes the states of Baja California, Coahuila, Chihuahua, Sonora, Tamaulipas, and Nuevo Leon. The mart in first place was H.E.B. in Tampico with a total price of $1,263.00 pesos.
The 24 basic basket products, according to CENEVAL, are enough to feed a family of four for a week. These are:
- Rice grains 1 kg.
- Tuna in oil 2 cans of 140 gr.
- Standard sugar 1 kg.
- Beefsteak 1 kg.
- White onion 1 kg.
- Jalapeño pepper 1 kg.
- Pork chops 1 kg.
- Black Beans 900 grs.
- White chicken eggs 1 package with 18 eggs
- Soap 1 piece
- Tomatoes 1 kg.
- Limes with seeds 1 kg.
- Pasteurized milk 5 pieces of 1 L each
- Red apple 1 kg.
- Valencia orange 1 kg.
- Bread 1 package of 680 grs.
- Potatoes 1 kg.
- Toilet paper 1 bag with 4 pieces
- Soup pasta 1 package of 220 grs.
- Whole chicken 1 kg.
- Can of sardines with tomato 1 can of 425 gr.
- Corn tortilla 4kg.
- Carrots 1 kg.
