CBP asks people not to cross with eggs from Tijuana to San Diego. Penalties can reach up to $10,000 dollars!

Inflation has affected the families of the world in several different ways. Tijuana and San Diego are two communities who depend on each other for several reasons; currently a problem for San Diego residents is an increase in egg prices, which is why they have tried to bring them from Tijuana. However, this is not permitted.

Customs and Border Protection released a statement, for those wishing to cross to San Diego or anywhere else into the United States through their ports of entry, to remember that uncooked eggs are prohibited entry from Mexico into the U.S.

They claim that lately the number of eggs intercepted has been increasing at ports of entry, which is why they decided to release this reminder. They stressed that failure to declare agriculture items can result in penalties of up to $10,000 dollars (approximately $189,965 Mexican pesos).

Currently, the price of a regular carton of eggs exceeds $5 dollars while in Tijuana one can get it at around $3 dollars maximum. In addition, wholesale stores are offering boxes of eggs at unprecedented prices, which is why many residents and citizens are looking to buy them on the other side of the border. However, this is prohibited.
