Last weekend, more than 200 Central American migrants arrived in Tijuana in a caravan of the with the intention of seeking political asylum in the United States, unfortunately this request was denied to the 80 who decided to ask for it.

The migrants considered that they had plenty of reasons to ask for asylum because they have been fleeing from the violence that exists in their countries where many of them are afraid to return due to the uncertainty that they may attack their lives.

Irineo Mujica, a migrant activist, who accompanied the caravan from the southern border of Mexico, lamented that the petition of many of them was denied, since there is a great risk to the integrity of these families who traveled more than 4 thousand kilometers to reach for asylum.

Another large part of the caravan that arrived in Tijuana decided not to continue with the idea of the asylum request in the USA given the immigration conditions imposed by the new president Donald Trump.

Enrique Morones, founder of Border Angels, commented to Frontera Newspaper, that the situation regarding asylum claims has always been difficult and that migrants were aware of that.

So far, the exact number of migrants who remain in the different hostels in the city is unknown and whether they will seek asylum in Mexico or embark on an illegal trip to the United States.
