Joaquín Guzmán also known as "El Chapo" had 386 visits from lawyers, family members and significant others during his 477 prison stay.

The head of the Attorney General of Mexico, Arely Gómez, disclosed that the Sinaloa cartel leader had 272 lawyer visits (some were over 2 hours long), 68 family visits (including a local Sinaloa legislator affiliated with the National Action Party [Partido Acción Nacional in Spanish]) and 46 conjugal visits.

According to Excélsior, this information tells us that that the capo had contact with the outside world during 81% of the time he was locked up.

Any of these visits may be related with his escape plan; which wasn't detected by the Center for Research and National Security (known in Spanish as the Centro de Investigación y Seguridad Nacional or CISEN) even though they were listening in to their conversations. Eugenio Imaz; CISEN's director, stated that the conversations weren't enough to "assume an escape."

"Which is suspicious since all of the videos in a maximum security federal prison have audio because they have to keep special watch, and at the same time they said they would be doing a special monitoring of his closest criminal circle," specified Alejandro Encinas, Secretary of the country's National Security Bicameral Committee.

This data was disclosed this past July in a private meeting between senator Alejandro Encinas, Arely Gómez (PGR) and Eugenio Imaz (CISEN), Secretary of the Interior, Miguel Ángel Osorio Chong and the head of the National Security Committee, Monte Alejandro Rubido.
