Panama's president, Juan Carlos Varela, denied both alleged visits of Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán to the country, although Panamanian authorities confirm that he had a Sinaloa Cartel financial network operating in Panamanian soil.
The 50 people detained who gave out information to the Secretary of Security, Rodolfo Aguilera and Panama's National Police Chief, commissioner Omar Pinzón, saying that they were part of a group led by "El Chapo" that was linked with Front 30 of Colombia's Revolutionary Armed Forces (Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia [FARC] in Spanish) whose representatives were Panamanians.
"Investigation reports show that there was a work relationship among fronts of the FARC and Mexican cartels, including Los Zetas, the Beltán Leyva family, Jalisco New Generation Cartel and Sinaloa Cartel to transport cocaine to the U.S.", states the DEA report, an agency who also has its eyes on these criminal organizations.
However, the intel about "El Chapo" being in Panama is false, president Varela stated that it's not confirmed in security officials reports.
