"The Ring" magazine confirmed that Julio César Chávez Jr. tested positive for marijuana in the exam he was submitted to after his fight against Sergio "Maravilla" Martínez.

The assessment was performed by the athletic commission of Nevada who is in possession of the results just like promoter Bob Arum who also said that if Chávez Jr. takes responsibility, he could receive only a minor punishment.

Journalist David Faitelson, from ESPN Latin America, contacted the father of the fighter, Julio César Chávez, a champion boxer himself, who said that he did not know anything about it and would join his son in the next days to discuss the subject.

News broke a few days after former trainer, Freddie Roach, stated that Chávez Jr. had lost the fight against Martínez due to his indiscipline and lack of dedication.
