But I have metaphorically been there through the magic of cinema, so I always wondered what that could be like. Suddenly, one day I was walking in downtown Tijuana on 6th Street and I saw this place called "Cinemático Café". This place was packed with bikes outside, the old school type hipster kids ride all the time. And I started feeling like something was different. I walked in and suddenly I didn't have to pretend I was in one of those little cafes. Everything from the lighting, to the way tables are arranged, the books, the posters, the aroma, the food and in the back of the place a big screen where an old film was playing glared at me and I thought to myself:" I've found something special here".

It's not everyday you get to experience that. So I walked to one of the owners and started asking questions, because apparently, I'm nosey like that. We started talking. So I asked about what the whole concept was and how they got the idea. Some years ago, there used to be a place called "Revolver Café", it was a place for local film makers to hang out and get their work out there for people to see. Then, like most places in Tijuana, it was gone with no explanation whatsoever, leaving a hole for the cinephile community.

Cinemático not only brings that back, it upgrades it, they have movie showings everyday. From independent films, to obscure movies, to blockbusters. At certain times of the day they have movie and tv trivia where everybody can participate winning movies, shirts and memorabilia. Most of the people that hang out here are local writers, filmmakers and people that want to enjoy good movies without the hustle or big prices the movie theatres have, plus the couches they have are awesome.

Bottom line is, this place is like nothing else I've experienced in this city, its got a whole artsy vibe and friendly atmosphere. Something rare in the art world, so if you want to have a good time I recommend you stop by, I can guarantee you won't regret it.
