Rosarito Beach . – The scene has now become familiar. Funeral services being held for law enforcement officials who were killed.

On Friday, the ceremony was for José Carlos Ventura Isada, 39, commander of the Primo Tapia district of the Rosarito Beach Police Department. He became the 65th officer killed in Tijuana and Rosarito Beach in the last three years.

He was shot to death March 27, on his day off, as he was leaving a park with his daughters and wife in the northeastern neighborhood of Crosswhite.

The initial investigation pointed to drug traffickers as being responsible for the murder, according to the state Attorney General’s Office.

On Friday morning, the coffin bearing his remains was taken to the courtyard of city hall, where fellow officers and officials paid tribute to him.

The commander’s wife, Claudia Zulema Cuevas, 35, who was wounded in the attack on her husband, attended the ceremony in a wheelchair accompanied by around 200 family members and friends.

Mayor Javier Robles promised them that he would do everything he could to bring his killers to justice.

And he announced that he had requested the assistance of federal police and the Mexican army to carry out operations and help patrol the city’s streets.
