Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said Thursday that a potential meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump is being explored but remains uncertain, noting that it would depend on Trump’s schedule and a formal invitation from the White House.
Sheinbaum is set to travel to Washington, D.C., next week to attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup Draw. Speaking at her morning press conference, she emphasized that while FIFA invited her to the event, any bilateral meeting would require a separate diplomatic invitation.
She added that Mexican officials are still determining whether Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and President Trump plan to attend the draw. The Foreign Ministry, she said, is coordinating with U.S. officials to assess whether a meeting could be arranged if both leaders are present.
For now, Sheinbaum stressed, nothing is confirmed and any potential talks hinge on Trump’s availability.
When and What Is the World Cup Draw?
