A Virginia racing circuit will be hosting in the month of August, for the first time in the United States, The Great Bull Run where there will also be a tomato fight to top it off.

Bryan Pierce, who is the circuit's spokesman, told the local CBS television station that August 24 will be the date for the first Great Bull Run that will also be held in Atlanta, Georgia, on October 19, and then in Houston, Texas, on December 7, 2013.

The Bull Run is a tradition that comes from Pamplona, Spain, which has been exposed to the world by the writer Ernest Hemingway. It is an event that starts on July 7 with the "San Fermin Festival" that last for seven days, along with a tomato fight on the last Wednesday of August that is held in Buñol, Valencia.

The running of the bulls in Virginia will be held on a circuit with a capacity for 30,000 spectators located about 40 miles south of Richmond. Organizers are hoping that at least five thousand people will sign up to run with the bulls, which right after there will be a tomato fight.

The Director of Parks and Recreation of Dinwiddie County, Brian Mancini, said that "the number of people expected to attend the event is such that it will probably fill the hotels throughout the region."

Mancini is also already making plans with restaurants and shops in the area, so that they can keep their doors open during the weekend to take advantage of the large crowds that is being expected.

"The curiosity about this event is phenomenal. There are people from other states also calling in for information," said Mancini.

The Bull Run and tomato fight organizers already have a calendar set for 2014, with similar ventures throughout the U.S., including California, Texas, Minnesota and Illinois.
