In a joint effort with federal and state governments, officials have opened a new Comprehensive Care Center for Agricultural Workers aimed at guaranteeing the rights, well-being, and dignified treatment of farmworkers in the region.

Baja California Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, alongside Secretary of Welfare Ariadna Montiel Reyes, representing President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, inaugurated the facility, which forms part of the broader Justice Plan for San Quintín.

“Today is a historic day for San Quintín, for Baja California, and for Mexico. With deep emotion and gratitude, we inaugurate this center,  a space that represents the fulfillment of a commitment to justice, dignity, and recognition for those who, with their own hands, work the land that feeds us all,” the governor said.

The new center will bring the services of the Mexican government directly to farmworker families in San Quintín, offering comprehensive care, support, and solutions to meet their needs.

Secretary Montiel Reyes explained that the plan is rooted in a humanistic vision, designed to address health, social welfare, and agricultural development needs in an integrated manner.

“This is a humanistic plan. It will address health needs and social needs through welfare programs. It will also tackle the conditions of the countryside, both agricultural labor and the technical aspects of the activities that drive Mexico’s development,” Montiel Reyes said.

As part of the plan’s ongoing progress, officials announced that all 20 clinics in the area will be renovated and equipped with additional medical staff and medicines. A new General Zone Hospital is also set to open next year, ensuring dignified health care for the local population.

Other strategic actions include the full electrification of homes by the Federal Electricity Commission, the rehabilitation of the Transpeninsular Highway, and infrastructure projects to guarantee access to drinking water in neighborhoods and communities.

In addition, two Child Education and Care Centers will open (one in July and another in October) and certificates will be issued to agricultural employers who provide social security, fair wages, and decent working conditions.

Governor Marina del Pilar concluded by emphasizing that farmworkers deserve to live with dignity, with access to health care, education for their children, and the conditions necessary to thrive.
