HARRISON, New Jersey One of the world's most popular soccer players, Javier "Chicharito" Hernández, spent Monday night in the hospital after suffering a concussion during a training session, according Manchester United, where he plays.
Hernández, 23, and his team are on a pre-season tour in the United States and are scheduled to play Wednesday night at Red Bull Arena against the MLS All-Stars.
A Manchester United spokesman said Hernández had suffered a light concussion during training and was sent to the hospital as precautionary measure.
It was not known how long he would remain there or whether he would play in Wednesday night's game.
Hernández, a native of Guadalajara, is a superstar of Mexico's national team.
"El Tri," as the team is called, played in San Diego in March against Venezuela, a match that ended in a 1-1 tie.
Hernández was named the MVP of the Copa Oro tournament, where Mexico beat the U.S. team in the final in June.
Manchester United is scheduled to begin its regular season on Aug. 7.
