A Baja California state lawmaker has donated an all-terrain rescue vehicle to Mexicali’s fire department, boosting the ability of wildland crews to respond to fires in remote and rugged terrain.
State Rep. Juan Manuel Molina García said the need became clear during recent wildfires in the Sierra de Juárez, when firefighters told him they lacked a four-wheel-drive vehicle capable of transporting a mobile pump to hard-to-reach areas.
The vehicle was purchased using just over 150,000 pesos, or roughly $8,700, from the lawmaker’s social assistance budget, public funds allocated to state legislators. Firefighters helped select the model based on operational needs.

Outfitted for off-road response, the vehicle includes reinforced suspension, transmission, and differential systems, along with specialized tires. It also features custom compartments designed to carry rescue tools and firefighting equipment safely.

Rubén Darío Osuna, head of Mexicali’s fire department, said the vehicle will allow crews to reach areas that were previously inaccessible.
Molina García said a second donation is already in progress. A wildland fire engine capable of attacking flames while in motion (a key advantage in difficult terrain) is expected to be delivered in the coming weeks to the Carranza station in Mexicali’s South Valley.
