During the COVID-19 cases update, the Secretary of Health of Baja California, Alonso Perez Rico, informed that until this Sunday, August 23rd, 489 active cases have been registered, with Mexicali remaining as the county with the highest number of these cases (192), while Tijuana occupies second place with 146 active cases.
However, the number of people confirmed with COVID-19 adds up to 15 thousand 993 in the state, and are distributed as follows:
– Mexicali: 7 thousand 891
– Tijuana: 4 thousand 804
– Ensenada: one thousand 957
– San Quentin: 434
– Tecate: 397
– San Felipe: 277
– Rosarito: 233
In the case of deaths, the region registers 3 thousand and 13, most of them belonging to Mexicali where one thousand 390 were registered, followed by Tijuana with one thousand 227, Ensenada with 271, Tecate with 93, Rosarito with 16, San Quintin with 14 and San Felipe with 2.
At this point, people who have unfortunately passed away due to the current virus are men (60%), being the most affected age group (52%) adults over 60 years old, so the Secretary of Health commented that "it is more risky to be a man over 60 in Baja California and lose the battle of sars-cov-2, here, in Mexico and in the world; this has already been proven".
So far, 9 thousand 134 Baja California natives have recovered from COVID-19, of which 2 thousand and 42 are Tijuana residents.
