The Mexicali government, through the Tourism and Conventions Committee (COTUCO), and the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC) have formalized a strategic alliance to boost local development. This collaboration, established by the signing of a partnership agreement at the Mexicali campus vice-rector’s office, will focus on advancing education, applied research, technological innovation, and tourism promotion in the region.
The agreement was signed by COTUCO Director María de los Ángeles Murillo Flores and UABC Mexicali Vice-Rector Adolfo Soto Curiel and its purpose is to establish the foundation for jointly developing academic, scientific, technological, and cultural activities, promoting professional training, knowledge generation, and the advancement of strategic projects with an impact on the Mexicali community.

At the event, Murillo Flores acknowledged the strong prior collaboration with UABC and the value of its research, particularly in areas such as medical tourism. She also highlighted that Mexicali was recently rated as a platinum-level quality tourist destination by the federal Department of Tourism—an achievement in which the university played a key role.
Meanwhile, Soto Curiel emphasized that this collaboration marks an important step in strengthening ties with strategic sectors in the region. He noted that community engagement is one of the university’s core pillars and that this agreement reinforces that commitment by fostering a direct connection between the academic community and the real needs of the local context, generating shared benefits.
