As it has been observed in the last few days, one person with COVID-19 in Baja California can infect one more, since the Effective Reproduction Rate (ER) is below one, specifically 0.90 this Friday morning, when on Monday, March 8 it was 0.73.

However, when analyzing the speed at which this virus is transmitted by municipality, Tecate, Tijuana and now also Rosarito register a ER above one: 1.22, 1.08 and 1.01 respectively. This means that in these localities one person with coronavirus can infect two more people.

It is worth mentioning that at the beginning of the week the ER was 1.01 in Tecate, 0.91 in Tijuana and 0.62 in Rosarito.

At this point, the Secretary of Health, Alonso Perez Rico, showed concern for Tijuana because it is one of the municipalities with the largest population in the state, and the way in which the virus is replicating is not favorable, he said.

Mexicali has an ER of 0.88, San Quintin of 0.71 and Ensenada of 0.57, which show an upward trend. San Felipe, for the moment, remains at 0.73.

"Practically all the municipalities are increasing their Effective Reproduction Rate, this is not favorable, what we want is precisely to keep it stable or with a negative trend. Right now in three municipalities we are losing the battle," he said.

According to Perez Rico, there have been 44 thousand 144 COVID-19 cases confirmed in the state, in addition to 7 thousand 567 unfortunate deaths.

Today, 445 cases are still active, 209 of which are concentrated in Tijuana, 132 in Mexicali, 46 in Ensenada, 27 in San Quintin, 17 in Rosarito, 13 in Tecate and one in San Felipe.
