As reported in this website, the head of the Secretariat of Health of Baja California, Alonso Perez Rico, confirmed at the beginning of April the arrival of the SARS-CoV-2 variants caused by COVID-19, originated in California, United States.
In view of the possibility that at some point the U.K. variants (B1.1.7) or the Brazilian variant (P1), which has just been located in Guanajuato, may also be detected; Perez Rico was asked about the prevention measures that the State will install to protect the population from such variants.
The Secretary indicated that in order to " protect ourselves" we will be "reinforcing, convincing, taking care of, vaccinating and making restrictive measures on activities and capacity", as we have been doing for the last year; pointing out that the main thing now is the need for co-responsibility on the part of Baja Californians.
"The State, the Secretariat of Health, did not tell you: go to the beach and pretend there is no COVID, go to this restaurant, go to this bar; we did not tell you that, we told you: take care of yourselves, keep your distance, use your masks, wash your hands, do not gather," he said.
At the same time, he pointed out that people who hold meetings or attend them, besides probably causing more infections, "go against public health" at all levels, municipal, state, national and global.
Regarding the State's co-responsibility, the Secretary said: "we are already doing it; we are vaccinating at full speed, we are preparing the hospitals, accumulating supplies for the attention we have to provide and which is coming imminently".
According to him, the restrictions on other activities, as well as the reduction of capacity, will be announced tomorrow.
The head of this agency urged the population not to stop taking preventive measures and to avoid overcrowding, but above all, not to believe that the pandemic is over and to be confident, as it happened in European countries, where the third wave has reached its peak.
As of today, 46 thousand 784 people have been infected by COVID-19 in Baja California, while 7 thousand 942 people have lost their lives.
The active cases reported this Friday are 315, of which 172 are concentrated in Mexicali, 103 in Tijuana, 26 in Ensenada, six in San Felipe, four in Tecate, two in San Quintin and two in Rosarito.
