MEXICO CITY.- Born as Emelia Pérez Castellanos, cuban dancer and actress Ninón Sevilla passed away at the age of 85 on Thursday, January 1st, due to a heart attack, according to Mexican state news agency Notimex.
Ninón, who was once a great figure in the "Rumbera" Movies from the Golden Years in Mexican Films, had been hospitalized for a few days in a private health center in Distrito Federal, and although her state of health was delicate, specialists said she had a very good chance of recovering.
It was presumed that the actress was suffering from pneumonia due to drastic weather change, after she had traveled from Miami to Mexico City. However, a heart attack was apparently her last battle.
Some of the films where she participated during the 40s and the 50s where "Revancha", "Coqueta" and "Perdida" alongside musician and composer Agustín Lara. She also was noticed for her work on the theatrical show "Aventurera" and french films.
In recent years, we saw her act in Mexican telenovelas such as "Rosa Salvaje", "María la del Barrio", "La Usurpadora" and "Amarte es mi pecado".
