With a time of 2:16:26, Daniel Valdez “El Pollo” managed another achievement as a marathon runner, as he got the best time for a Baja Californian in the history of this marathon; previously, Tijuana native Javier “Bala” Zavala held this record with a time of 2:19.

In the woman’s category, Ivette Sandoval was the best Baja Californian with a time of 2:58:42, after running in the 35-39 year category. The Mexicali native by adoption was able to compete after a change of rules stating that with two years of residency in the state one could compete as a local athlete.

Valdez and Sandoval received an additional prize of $19,000 pesos for being the best Baja Californians. They will also receive support from INDE BC with a round trip flight to any marathon in the world within a timeframe of one year.
