The director of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) conducted an aerial tour on Tuesday, March 24, flying over the San Ysidro port of entry to survey the southwest border and gain an overview of traffic corridors in the region, according to the DEA’s San Diego Field Division.

The flight came one day after Terry Cole, the DEA administrator, met with the Executive Board of the San Diego HIDTA program on March 23, where he addressed current threats related to drug trafficking and cartel activity in the region. During that meeting, he also underscored the importance of strengthening interagency partnerships.

The aerial tour takes place amid ongoing enforcement operations along the border and continued reinforcement of the border wall. According to recent data from CBP, approximately 785 pounds of fentanyl, along with other narcotics, were seized at U.S. ports of entry and border areas in January 2026.
