According to the head of the Secretariat of Health of Baja California, Alonso Perez Rico, the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine has been administered to 142 thousand 118 adults over 60 years of age in the state.
However, those who were among the first to receive the drug are worried about their second dose, since it is known that everything depends on the arrival of more vaccines to the state. In addition to this, the adult population of Tijuana has yet to be vaccinated.
In view of this, the Secretary pointed out that the vaccines that have been applied in the region are AstraZeneca, Pfizer and Sinovac, all of them needing a second dose for greater efficacy, but with maximum and different days between them to apply this booster after the first dose:
AstraZeneca: up to 84 days for the second dose.
Pfizer: between 21 and 28 days, but the pharmaceutical company maintained that even up to 42 days maximum for the second dose.
Sinovac: up to 28 days to apply the second dose.
Perez Rico assured that the second dose will be applied to all those who received the first dose "much earlier" than the deadline, since the shipments have been programmed with the vaccine producers so that they send the second doses within the corresponding period, taking into account when they sent the shipment for the first dose.
He also reminded the population that these boosters will be applied at the same vaccination points where they received their first dose, so it is important to know which vaccine they received and when, but to speed up the process, he recommended that they take their registration form with them. In the state there are still between 25% and 30% of older adults who refuse to get vaccinated.
