This summer, Balboa Park will host one of the season’s most eye-catching botanical events: the Carnivorous Plant Show & Sale. From towering pitcher plants to vividly colored Venus flytraps, these fascinating species come together in an exhibition that blends science, beauty, and a touch of the bizarre.

The event will be held in Room 101 of Casa del Prado, running from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on August 2 and 3. Visitors will have the chance to explore the striking variety of shapes, textures, and colors that make carnivorous plants so captivating. Organizers recommend bringing a camera, as there will be plenty of photo-worthy sights.

Rare Finds, Expert Picks, and the Perfect Start to Your Plant Collection

A panel of expert judges will select standout specimens to receive the Best in Show award. This year’s event is supported by California Carnivores, one of the nation’s most respected carnivorous plant nurseries, known for offering the largest selection in the U.S.

Thousands of plants will be available for purchase, ranging from rare and exotic species to beginner-friendly varieties, perfect for anyone curious about these unusual plants or looking to expand their collection.
