Most local youth clubs are into the off season this time of year but some elite teams don't get much time to rest.
That's the case for clubs from San Diego that are slated to compete in the Cal South National Cup.
Teams with boys and girls in the Under 12 and U-13 age categories completed National Cup competition last month while the older players get a shot at the elite tournament slated to feature some of the country's top teams. Competition for ages Under 14 to U-18 begin Saturday in San Bernardino and Lancaster.
The first round will be played this weekend which includes group play in different age brackets (Under-14 to U-18, boys and girls). Bracket play continues April 30 and May 1. The Round of 32 is slated for May 8 and the Round of 18 May 14. The quarterfinals are scheduled for May 15 while the semis are slated for May 21 and the championship final on May 22. Some bracket dates vary.

You can follow several teams representing the South Bay in the tournament, including Bonita Rebels, Aztecs FC and Chula Vista Rangers.
Other San Diego clubs participating in the tournament include San Diego Surf, La Jolla Nomads, Del Mar Sharks, Poway Vaqueros, Albion, Carlsbad Elite, Notts Forrest and Nado Select, to name a few.
