Ensenada Mayor Claudia Agatón to Deliver First-Year State of the City

Ahead of her first Government Report, Mayor Claudia Agatón highlighted major strides in safety, infrastructure, and social programs.

Mayor Claudia Agatón Muñiz of Ensenada is set to deliver her first State of the City this Thursday, October 9, outlining a year of significant progress on key campaign promises.

In a series of social media posts previewing the report, the mayor highlighted achievements across public safety, infrastructure, and social programs, claiming her administration has already completed nearly 70% of the goals in the 2025-2027 Municipal Development Plan.

Progress Made on Safety

Mayor Agatón announced that preventive patrols have increased by 60%, correlating with a substantial drop in major crimes. According to the data, the city has seen a 43% reduction in home burglary, a 37% decrease in non-violent robbery, a 36% drop in vehicle theft, and a 30% decline in homicides, among others.

This security push was backed by a significant investment of 84 million pesos in new equipment and a historic 20% pay raise for the Municipal Police.

The Ensenada Fire Department also received a boost with the lease of 15 new vehicles, including fire engines, ambulances, sedans, pick-up trucks, a water tanker, an immediate response truck, and a firefighter trucks, distributed across the municipality’s stations.

Achievements in Public Services

On the public services front, Mayor Agatón points to a 99% efficiency rate in garbage collection and widespread improvements to street lighting. A major focus has been on roadways, with over 155 million pesos invested to renew more than 71,000 square meters of pavement which is around 118 city blocks.

The public works campaign included paving, resurfacing, installing new signage, maintaining storm drains, and repairing potholes using advanced Jetpatcher technology. The mayor also noted efforts to improve connectivity in outlying delegations with graded road access.

Social Programs

Social initiatives have reached over 117,000 residents, and they include t he rehabilitation of 33 sports facilities and the launch of a new Adaptive Swimming Program.

The administration also invested 5.6 million pesos into its Social Inclusion Program, aimed at creating opportunities for women, youth, and indigenous communities.

An additional 1.8 million pesos in financial and in-kind support was distributed through partnerships with other institutions and government agencies.

A Boost for Tourism and Sports

Ensenada’s tourism sector showed strong performance, with the local Carnival setting a new attendance record. The port maintained its national lead in cruise ship arrivals on the Pacific coast, welcoming over 1.3 million hotel visitors who contributed an estimated 88 million pesos to the local economy.

Mayor Claudia Agatón emphasized her commitment to women’s empowerment through programs focused on violence prevention as well as social, medical, legal, in-kind, and self-employment support.

Regarding sports, 33 sports complexes and courts were rehabilitated, benefiting more than 319,000 Ensenada residents of all ages.

Furthermore, 25 own sporting events, 30 in collaboration with other institutions, and 12 training sessions, with the participation of over 75,000 people, were all promoted.
