It is worth mentioning that this fact arises from the reinforcement by U.S. Customs Border and Protection (CBP) of the restrictions established at the border crossings between Mexico and the U.S. since last Friday, August 21, as a preventive measure against the health crisis by COVID-19.
Given this and according to the Consulate, from 4:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., the maximum number of lanes are expected to be opened this week, so they urged to cross at these times.
Let's remember that the actions that are part of these recent and strict restrictions are the closing of automobile and pedestrian lanes, in addition CBP implemented secondary inspections to non-essential travelers who are provided with preventive supplies if necessary.
According to a statement, these measures are aimed primarily at U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents, who were observed crossing frequently for purposes that are not considered essential.
If you also have to cross this week because of your job or other essential activity, you can enter here to find out the waiting time at the ports of entry.
