Extortion calls and messages continue to affect residents across Tijuana, prompting local authorities to call for immediate reporting of any attempt.

Tijuana’s Security and Citizen Protection Department (SSPCM) urges anyone who is the target of an extortion attempt not to remain silent and to act immediately.

What to do if you receive an extortion call:

  • Do not provide information. Never share personal or financial details. Extortionists often try to scare you into giving information they can use against you.
  • Do not give in to threats. Under no circumstances should you make deposits, transfers, or payments.
  • Record the information. Note the number, time, and details of the message or call, as this is crucial for investigations.
  • Report immediately. You can call 911 in an emergency, use the Emergency Button in the SSPCM mobile app, or make a confidential, anonymous report via 089.

If your business is being threatened, preserve all messages, calls, or audio recordings as evidence.

José Alejandro Avilés Amezcua, head of Tijuana’s SSPCM, reiterated the importance of citizen protection, emphasizing that police operations and intelligence efforts are being strengthened to combat criminal activity and ensure public safety.
