The National Weather Service (NWS) issued an extreme heat warning on Sunday around 3:00 p.m. for Southern California.

According to authorities, the areas under the highest alert include Indian Wells Valley, Mojave Desert Slopes, and Mojave Desert.

Forecasters predict “dangerous heat”, with temperatures potentially exceeding 44°C (111°F). As a result, officials have issued safety recommendations to reduce risks during this period.

The warning will remain active until 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 12. Below are some recommendations from the NWS:

  • Stay hydrated
  • Seek cool shelter
  • Stay in air-conditioned rooms
  • Avoid direct sun exposure
  • Ensure the safety of children and pets: Never leave them unattended in vehicles
  • Wear lightweight, comfortable clothing

“Dangerous heat conditions with temperatures up to 44°C (111°F) are expected… Heat-related illnesses rise significantly during extreme heat events,” NWS warned.

If you or someone else experiences a medical emergency, call 911 immediately and move the affected person to a cool, shaded area while waiting for help.
