Bricks Ahead is the result of a decade-long labor of love that has transformed a casual pastime into a celebrated community initiative. Through intricate LEGO replicas, it reimagines Tijuana’s most recognizable landmarks on a smaller, more colorful scale, thanks to the passion and persistence of a local father-and-son duo.
It all began with a miniature Oxxo. On a whim, Jorge Domínguez and his son, Ángel, decided to recreate the ubiquitous convenience store in LEGO. They shared the result online, and the overwhelmingly positive response became the spark that set their project in motion. What started as a hobby quickly evolved into a mission: to capture the soul of their city, brick by brick, and showcase it to the world.

Jorge Domínguez noted that one of the largest figures they have built is that of the Tijuana Cultural Center (CECUT), a model constructed with approximately 700 pieces.
Their success led them to organize community events, creating a vital gathering space for the city’s community of LEGO fans to showcase their own creations.
The engine behind this creative endeavor is a warehouse stocked with nearly one million LEGO pieces, sourced from brand stores, online marketplaces, and local flea markets.

For Jorge, assembling these figures is an activity that relaxes him where he gets the opportunity to share time with his son.
Meanwhile, Ángel said that what he enjoys most about this project is seeing how their creations evoke emotions in people.

“What I like the most is being able to share different things with others, to spark imagination. I am very passionate about seeing people’s reactions to something that took us months to collect the pieces for and weeks to build.”
Currently, both father and son are working on an ambitious project with the goal of representing a part of the city for Tijuana’s upcoming anniversary celebration.
