Baja California has shown downward trends in the number of COVID-19 cases for several weeks now, and despite the fact that it has been mentioned that it is inevitable that due to this the entity will change color in the epidemiological traffic light, the head of the State Health Secretariat, Alonso Perez Rico, emphasized not to stop following the prevention measures since in view of the new variants of SARS-CoV 2, which have been registered in the neighboring country, the United States, there is a possibility of experiencing a third wave.
"Other COVID waves are coming, other strains are coming, other mutations of COVID-19 that are much more infectious and we have to be prepared for that moment, that is why we must continue to take care of ourselves," he said.
As of Tuesday morning, the active cases total 788, of which 334 are concentrated in Tijuana, 179 in Mexicali, 165 in Ensenada, 48 in San Quintin, 35 in Rosarito, 15 in Tecate and 12 in San Felipe.
In addition, in the last 24 hours, 23 deaths and 118 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in the state. 52 of the latter were reported in Tijuana, while ten of the deaths occurred in Ensenada.
These figures bring the total number of infections in Baja California to 41 thousand 863, with Mexicali continuing to be the municipality where the majority of positive cases were reported, registering 16 thousand and 42.
The number of deaths of Baja Californians due to COVID-19 is 6 thousand 933, of which 3 thousand and 87 occurred in Tijuana.
On the other hand, hospital occupancy in the institutions that treat patients with coronavirus in the region is 35.57%, with 612 beds and 190 ventilators.
According to Perez Rico's report, 281 people were hospitalized yesterday due to this disease, and 106 were intubated.
Currently the Effective Reproduction Rate is at 0.72, so one person with COVID-19 in Baja California can infect just one more.
