TIJUANA A federal police commander was shot to death Friday morning on Airport Boulevard, in the Mesa de Otay district, authorities reported.
The State Attorney Generals office identified the victim as Manuel Plata Camacho, a commander in the Federal Preventive Police agency.
The agent had stationed his patrol car in the heavily traveled zone of Airport Boulevard when he was attacked, near the corner of Bellas Artes Boulevard, in front of a customs agency.
After the commander was killed, around 10:30 a.m., police mounted a sweep of the area. The investigation of his killing has been turned over to the federal authorities.
