A new park centered on the physical and mental well-being of dogs will open in Tijuana at former Caliente Dog Track facilities, becoming the first of its kind in Baja California.

The project is led by Cinología México, a canine club that, as of January this year, transitioned from being an affiliate to an independent national organization with international recognition. The group aims to raise awareness about the true needs of dogs beyond just human affection.

“Even though we love them dearly, we sometimes forget that they have physical, mental, and social needs different from ours,” Ricardo Rorastieri, General Director of Cinología México, said.

The park’s official inauguration will take place during the canine fair from July 17 to 20, featuring competitions, exhibitions, and activities for the whole family. Among the highlights is Mexico’s first high-level dog obstacle course race, divided into three categories based on the dogs’ size and breed. Prizes of up to $10,000 pesos per category will be awarded.

The park will span over two hectares of land dedicated exclusively to canine recreation, education, and health. It will also include veterinary modules, adoption zones, and activities designed to promote the love for dogs among children, seniors, and families.

Additionally, memberships will be available, though admission to the inaugural event will be free for the public at large. Those wishing to participate in competitions will pay symbolic fees: $450 pesos for exhibitions and $900 pesos for the “Painani Challenge”, with discounts included.

“This park is not just a space for dogs, it’s a platform to transform animal care culture in Mexico. We want people to adopt not as a trend but as a true commitment,” added Rorastieri, who has also worked with K-9 police units.

With over 25 specialists in canine health and the support of Aliance, an international organization present in more than 90 countries, Cinología México aims to position Tijuana as a global benchmark in animal well-being

The event will also have a strong social component as proceeds will help purchase food, wheelchairs, and support for children and seniors. In Ricardo’s words: “Now, dogs will be the heroes of humans.”
