The administration of Tijuana Mayor Ismael Burgueño, through the Civil Registry Office, is inviting residents to take advantage of the Mexico–United States dual nationality campaign “I Am Mexico!” (¡Soy México!), which runs through September 30 as part of a coordinated effort among federal, state, and municipal authorities.

Launched on August 1, the campaign is designed to help foreign-born individuals obtain Mexican nationality, granting them legal identity, full citizenship rights, and access to the benefits enjoyed by Mexican citizens.

As of August 12, Civil Registry Office No. 01, located at City Hall, had received roughly 1,000 applications. When combined with applications from the city’s nine districts, the total stands at about 1,500 case files.

The Municipal Civil Registry Office collects all the required documentation and forwards it to the State Civil Registry in Mexicali, which is responsible for validating the files. The National Population Registry also participates in the review process.

Applicants must present the original U.S. birth certificate of the child, the certified Mexican birth certificate and CURP (Unique Population Registry Code) of the parent or parents, and a completed application form provided by the Municipal Civil Registry.

During the campaign period, the process is free, with fees waived for the apostille, document translation, and the certificate of non-registration for dual nationality.

The program does not apply to individuals born in Connecticut, Guam, Idaho, Northern Mariana Islands, Maryland, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, American Samoa, or Texas.

City Hall noted that applications can be submitted at Civil Registry Office No. 01 from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., or at any of the municipal district offices.

Through the “I Am Mexico!” campaign, the local government seeks to promote inclusion and equal rights, ensuring that beneficiaries can fully participate in the social, cultural, and economic life of Tijuana and the country.
