The Chargers announced that wide receiver/return specialist Richard Goodman, an exclusive-rights free agent, signed his one-year contract tender today.
Goodman is entering his fourth season with the Chargers. A former undrafted free agent, Goodman spent most of his rookie season (2010) on the team's practice squad. In 2011, he played in all 16 games and returned 34 kickoffs for 936 yards (27.5-yard average), including a team-record 105-yard return touchdown in the Chargers' final regular season game at Oakland. Last season, Goodman returned 18 kickoffs for 497 yards (27.6 avg.) before injuring his hamstring during the opening kickoff of the Chargers' Oct. 28 game at Cleveland, an injury that landed him on the "Reserve-Injured" list, causing him to miss the remainder of the season.
Goodman is the Chargers' third free agent to sign a new contract. Long snapper Mike Windt signed a new four-year deal on March 9 and kicker Nick Novak signed a new four-year contract March 12.
