Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda announced that enrollment for the Women Drivers Program will open in Ensenada starting in September and will broaden its educational offerings with technical training in diesel engines due to a request from the private and personnel transportation sector.

The initiative will include “Mujeres al Volante” (Women Behind the Wheel), the new “Hombres al Volante” (Men Behind the Wheel) program, and a diesel engine mechanics course for those looking to professionalize in this field.

During a meeting with transportation representatives, the governor explained that these efforts aim to create new job opportunities, promote dignified transportation services, and strengthen mobility with a focus on inclusion and well-being.

Governor Marina del Pilar stated that the goal is to transform transportation through education and inclusion, supporting those who work in the sector every day.

“We are convinced that a safer and more humane transportation system starts with better-trained people. That’s why we’re bringing this program to Ensenada, to open opportunities and support those who sustain this service with their daily work,” she said.

Since its creation, “Mujeres al Volante” has enabled dozens of women to formally enter Baja California’s transportation sector, providing them with comprehensive training, work tools, and institutional support.

“A woman behind the wheel represents autonomy, strength, and profound change. Now, men will also have access to this training with a new approach: one that values their effort and gives them the tools to move forward,” the governor emphasized.

Additionally, she explained that the diesel mechanics training, also set to begin in September, will be the first of its kind in Ensenada and will later expand to other cities to broaden its reach across the state.

The technical training is aimed at women and men interested in joining or advancing professionally in the transportation sector, particularly in operational and vehicle maintenance roles, where skilled and certified personnel are in demand.

Jorge Alberto Gutiérrez Topete, Director of the state’s Institute for Sustainable Mobility (IMOS), stressed that these initiatives are part of a broader labor inclusion strategy with a direct impact on family economies.

“Training in mechanics isn’t just about gaining technical knowledge, it’s about holding the possibility of stable income, dignified growth, and contributing to the development of our communities,” he stated.

The training programs will be coordinated by the state’s Department of Education, IMOS, and the Industrial Job Training Center (CECATI).

Registration details will be announced in the coming days. In the meantime, interested individuals can request information by calling the IMOS Ensenada office at 646-153-0851, where other sector-related inquiries are also handled.
