Governor Marina del Pilar Appoints Zaida Luz López as Baja California’s New Minister of Tourism

López succeeds Miguel Aguiñiga, stepping into a key state role after a successful career in the restaurant and events sectors.

Baja California Governor Marina del Pilar officially announced the appointment of Zaida Luz López as the state’s new Minister of Tourism. The governor expressed her full confidence in López’s talent, experience, and dedication to the region, highlighting her potential to further strengthen Baja California’s tourism industry. She also acknowledged the achievements of outgoing minister Miguel Aguiñiga.

“I also want to recognize the outstanding work of Miguel Aguiñiga, who carried out this role with great dedication and helped secure Baja California as the host of Tianguis Turístico 2025,” said the governor. “I’m confident that your leadership and skills will lead to continued success in your future projects.”

The Technological University of Tijuana also voiced its support for the new appointment, stating:

“During her tenure as president of CANIRAC Tijuana, she offered us her full support. We look forward to collaborating on initiatives that promote tourism and offer our students new learning opportunities.”

Who Is Zaida Luz López?

Zaida Luz López is a Tijuana-based entrepreneur with over a decade of experience in the culinary and event planning industries. Her career began in 2008 with the founding of Brújula Espectáculos y Más, an agency specializing in large-scale event production, public relations, and advertising.

In 2012, she and her husband launched Barrikas Burger, a restaurant that became part of the culinary wave that has helped define Baja California’s gastronomic identity. Over the years, López has emerged as a key figure in Tijuana’s restaurant scene. In 2024, she made history by becoming the first woman to serve as president of the Tijuana chapter of the National Chamber of the Restaurant and Seasoned Food Industry (CANIRAC).
