Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda inaugurated the State Council for Peace and municipal counterparts, a key step in Baja California’s strategy to strengthen its social fabric in coordination with Mexico’s Interior Ministry.

The newly established councils will serve as permanent platforms for dialogue, coordination, and collaboration between citizens and all levels of government.

As president of the State Council, Governor Ávila Olmeda swore in its members, who include state officials, mayors, local legislators, and representatives from educational and religious institutions.

“It is an honor to swear in so many people committed to peace in our country and our state. We will continue building a safe state for families because our only commitment is to the people of Baja California, to peace, and to justice,” the governor said.

She emphasized that the initiative reflects a proactive approach to security—acknowledging that while fighting crime is a daily task, addressing its root causes requires long-term, coordinated efforts. The councils, she added, are part of a broader process to foster community values and trust while strengthening social development and a shared sense of belonging.

“Peace is not imposed, peace is built. I greatly appreciate the support of Secretary of the Interior Rosa Icela Rodríguez and I know that thanks to President Claudia Sheinbaum’s instructions, peace is being strengthened every day in our country,” the governor said.

Clara Luz Flores Carrales, head of the Religious Affairs Unit, noted that the councils fulfill one of the Sheinbaum administration’s key public policies. She explained that the initiative will build on the previous Peace Roundtables by implementing concrete actions to reduce antisocial behavior and prevent crime.
