Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda has launched a sweeping cultural program for Baja California, offering more than 160 arts and culture workshops across the state in the first half of the year. The initiative aims to make the arts accessible to residents of all ages and abilities, including children, youth, seniors, and people with disabilities.
The workshops, which span disciplines from music and dance to theater, visual arts, and literature, will be held from February through June. They will take place at State Centers for the Arts located in Mexicali, Tijuana, Ensenada, Tecate, and Playas de Rosarito.

“Culture and art open opportunities, strengthen identity, and create spaces for expression for every generation. These workshops are designed so anyone can participate, no prior experience is required,” the governor said.
Registration opens January 26 and runs through February 20 at local State Centers for the Arts and the State Central Public Library. Classes are set to begin February 9.

The lineup includes several standout programs tailored to community interests:
- In Mexicali, the flamenco workshop “Flamenqueer” is designed for the LGBTQI+ community, alongside inclusive courses such as “Let’s Write Legends as a Family”, a muralism workshop featuring a mixed technique, and “Colors in My Mirror” for children and youth with disabilities.
- Tecate will host a documentary film workshop for young creators.
- Tijuana offers a diploma program in dance and stage production led by the Luz Boreal Company.
- Playas de Rosarito provides free Son Jarocho workshops and vocal training.
- Ensenada will feature an intensive playwriting lab in June, organized with the National Center for the Arts.

Alma Delia Abrego Ceballos, State Secretary of Culture, emphasized the program’s inclusive approach as they are free workshops for seniors and people with disabilities, though spaces are limited. However, most paid workshops require a single semester fee, with costs varying by discipline. Additionally, the State Central Public Library will host free cultural activities focused on reading and community building.
