“Mexico’s history is the story of a people forever in struggle for sovereignty, freedom, democracy, social justice, and dignity. The homeland was, from the start, a popular cause: not an elite agreement nor a gracious concession of power, but an insurgency,” she said.

Looking forward, the president announced a forthcoming constitutional reform aimed at reducing the standard work week to a 40-hour work week.

“Mexico is the product of its transformations, each of which left its mark on a constitution. Not as a dead letter, but as a living expression of popular struggle. This is our history, this is our strength, and this is our responsibility: to defend the homeland, safeguard sovereignty, and make social justice a reality,” President Sheinbaum concluded.
