Baja California Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda led a series of interagency coordination meetings with labor representatives and agricultural employers in San Quintín, aiming to establish actions that guarantee the rights of farmworkers.
During the gathering with farmworkers—attended by authorities from all three levels of government—the governor acknowledged the historic struggles of the agricultural sector and reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to labor justice.

“This is about repairing the harm done over years by neoliberal governments that ignored their legitimate needs. We are firmly convinced of moving toward social justice. We are determined to advance the fair and rightful demands of San Quintín’s farmworkers, whose valley generates the greatest wealth for Baja California,” she stated.
The governor highlighted actions already taken to support female farmworkers, such as the construction of the municipality’s first Women’s Justice Center, as well as progress in housing access through relaxed requirements for INFONAVIT loans.

She emphasized that this meeting marks a key step toward formalizing labor rights in agriculture, where daily harvests supply internationally exported goods.
“I want you to know of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo’s deep love and commitment to this generous community. That’s why her government representatives are here today: to make progress on labor and social rights for the farmworkers who have enriched Baja California’s agriculture,” the governor added.

Zoé Robledo Aburto, head of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), stated that under President Sheinbaum’s directive, San Quintín’s farmworkers are a priority, ensuring their access to social security and improved healthcare infrastructure.
In a separate meeting with the Baja California Agricultural Council and government representatives from all three levels, discussions focused on formalizing labor rights in the sector.
Alejandro Salafranca Vázquez, head of the federal Department of Labor’s Dignified Work Unit, announced plans for an agricultural labor certification to ensure exported produce from San Quintín is harvested under fair and formal working conditions.

Governor Marina del Pilar and Zoé Robledo also toured IMSS-Bienestar Rural Hospital No. 69, where expansion and remodeling are underway. Once completed, it will feature 60 beds and new specialties like ophthalmology, ENT, trauma, and orthopedics, bringing specialized care to the region.
Robledo added that rural clinics in Camalú, Lázaro Cárdenas, and Ejido Jesús María will be upgraded to Family Medicine Units.

Land Donation for Baja California’s First IMSS CECI Center
During the visit, the governor and IMSS officials presided over the land donation by the State Government for Baja California’s first Center for Education and Childcare (CECI) in Lomas de San Ramón.
This will be the second center nationwide (after Ciudad Juárez), offering comprehensive care for children from 43 days old to 4 years.
