Baja California Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda oversaw the rehabilitation work on the running tracks at Ciudad Deportiva in Mexicali. The project represents an investment of $17 million pesos and aims to ensure that high-performance young people have optimal facilities for their sports and professional development.
The governor emphasized the importance of strengthening sports spaces, highlighting that sports transform lives and contribute to the comprehensive development of Baja California’s youth.

“We will continue investing in High-Performance Centers located in the state so that all young people in Baja California have access to top-level training,” she added.
During the inspection, Governor Marina del Pilar met with young athletes, congratulating them on their achievements and encouraging them to continue training with discipline and pride as they take Baja California to the top.
Meanwhile, the Director of the Institute of Sports and Physical Culture (INDE), Laura Marmolejo Toscano, explained that thanks to the governor’s support, a world-class track is being built, suitable for national and international competitions.

“World sports are evolving, and we cannot fall behind. Children cannot train in a place that is not the same as where they compete, especially high-performance athletes who break records. That’s why we are bringing them a world-class track.”
The project includes the rehabilitation of a 6,000-square-meter surface, featuring corrective maintenance with the existing asphalt base, milling, micro-coating application, sidewalk rehabilitation, and curve reconfiguration in accordance with World Athletics guidelines.
The running track will have eight 400-meter lanes, as well as specialized areas for long jump, high jump, pole vault, and zones for javelin and shot put.

Marmolejo Toscano added that alongside the track rehabilitation, other projects are underway, such as the rehabilitation of the cycling track, restrooms, parking lots, and lighting in various areas, as well as the renovation of the archery range.
Michelle, a young athlete, commented that these types of facilities will significantly contribute to her performance, as training on professional tracks will allow her to compete better prepared.
