The government of Baja California, led by Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, is strengthening healthcare initiatives to ensure medical attention, functional aid, and specialized services for seniors across the state. This effort includes the implementation of 127,000 annual screenings and early diagnostics to detect common age-related conditions.
Celebrating Seniors Day, which takes place on August 28, the governor emphasized that actions are being promoted through the Secretariat of Health to encourage self-care and disease management to support healthy aging. She invited senior Baja Californians to take advantage of the available programs and services.

Vision is a critical faculty for restoring independence among the elderly. Through the Cataract Surgery Program, over 700 procedures have been performed in 2025, restoring well-being and improving the health of uninsured adults aged 60 and above.

Through Health Caravans, medical services and aid are brought directly to communities, ensuring access to preventive care. To date, over 6,000 pieces of equipment such as wheelchairs, glasses, and hearing devices have been distributed, significantly improving seniors’ well-being.
“Besides these benefits, it is important for seniors to engage in physical activities suited to their health condition, such as walking, jogging, swimming, or using a stationary bike, for at least 30 minutes daily. We encourage everyone to strengthen their lifestyle for optimal well-being,” the secretary said.
Lastly, Medina Amarillas reiterated the Baja California government’s commitment to the comprehensive care of seniors, urging them to use all available programs and services to maintain an active and healthy aging process.
