Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda brought free veterinary services directly to the El Cóndor neighborhood this week as part of an Extensive Canine and Feline Sterilization Campaign, reinforcing her administration’s commitment to public health in underserved communities.

The event offered sterilizations, vaccinations, deworming, tick collar placement, and fumigation services through the Zoonosis department. These actions are part of a broader public health strategy that recognizes animals as sentient beings and aims to create safer, healthier environments for families across the state.

Since taking office, Governor Marina del Pilar’s administration has administered more than 1.1 million vaccines and performed 96,500 sterilizations for dogs and cats.

State Chief of Staff Ricardo Serrano noted that the campaign was a direct response to requests made by residents during a previous visit by the governor. He also praised health workers for their dedication in reaching communities to deliver services where they are needed most.

Health Secretary Adrián Medina Amarillas emphasized that such campaigns are key to preventing diseases such as rickettsiosis and rabies, which can have serious consequences for humans if not detected early.

“With the trust of the community, we are doing extensive work to ensure animal health, which in turn translates into well-being for people, the community, the municipality, and the entire state. This is an integral effort that includes sterilization, animal control, fumigation, and training,” he said.

He explained that the initiative is carried out through coordination between state and municipal governments and civil society. This collaborative approach has helped advance the prevention of tick-borne illnesses while maintaining rabies eradication in humans for 50 years and in dogs for 40 years in Baja California.

In addition to veterinary services, the campaign offered health services for residents, including measles and influenza vaccinations as part of ongoing efforts to protect public health.

Medina Amarillas encouraged residents to take advantage of the free services offered at health campaigns in their communities. Schedules are available on the official social media channels of the State Government and the Secretariat of Health.
