Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda highlighted the critical role of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in driving the state’s economy during the inauguration of the “Business Factory” (Fábrica de Negocios) event this week. The initiative, a partnership between the global standards organization GS1 and private industry, aims to strengthen economic competitiveness by connecting local businesses with major national supply chains.
During the event, Governor Marina del Pilar reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to supporting MSMEs and entrepreneurs, whom she credited as the primary source of the state’s economic dynamism.

“Global markets have turned their attention to our state. We are actively promoting local procurement and entrepreneurship, making Baja California one of the most attractive places for investment,” she said.
Governor Del Pilar emphasized that the initiative reflects a shared vision between government and the private sector to foster a modern, innovative economy and build a creative and innovative Baja California, with companies adapted to the new realities of digitalization and artificial intelligence.

Citing that over 90% of the state’s companies are MSMEs, she outlined the support provided through the state’s Ministry of Economy and Innovation (SEI), which provides tools to help businesses formalize operations, access barcoding, scale their ideas, among other things.
She highlighted the participation of producers, commercial chains, distributors, national and international buyers, clusters, chambers and organizations, platforms such as Mercado Libre, as well as MSMEs and startups offering or requiring products ready to serve new markets.

Juan Carlos Molina, GS1 Director, explained that the “Business Factory” concept was created to bridge the gap between small local producers and large corporations. This marks the fourth national edition of the event and its first time being hosted in Baja California.

The meeting takes place over two days of conferences and business appointments, on Wednesday, September 3, and Thursday, September 4, in Tijuana, with the participation of companies, commercial chains, digital platforms, and local startups.
