Baja California Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, alongside Volaris CEO Enrique Beltranena Mejicano, unveiled a new route between Mexicali and Morelia, set to begin operations on July 5.
The route joins a growing network of destinations in Baja California, including new connections to Culiacán and Monterrey.

Over the past year, seat capacity has increased 50% in Mexicali and 15% in Tijuana, improving access to cities like Hermosillo and Querétaro.
The announcement took place during the 2025 Tourism Tianguis at the Baja California Center, where Governor Ávila Olmeda stressed that the partnership with Volaris has enhanced the state’s air infrastructure and improved connectivity, especially to the Tijuana and Mexicali airports.
“We are thrilled to continue building strategic partnerships to boost the aerospace and tourism industries in our state,” she said. “We know how important Volaris is as an affordable airline for the public, connecting Baja California to countless parts of Mexico and the world.”

For his part, Beltranena Mejicano noted that the airline has carried 88 million passengers on its 45 routes to and from Tijuana and Mexicali over the past 19 years, making it the region’s leading airline.
“It’s not just about transportation, we want Baja California and Mexicali to become destinations,” he said. “Volaris means being part of the major events in Tijuana and Mexicali, getting our families involved in society.”
Governor Marina del Pilar concluded by thanking Volaris for its continued collaboration, noting that joint efforts like these are essential for driving Baja California’s growth as both a tourism and economic powerhouse.
