A return to in-person classes will occur in the state in the middle of a pronounced decrease tendency in coronavirus cases. This is why Baja Californian Governor, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, invited students and parents to be prepared to go back to in-person classes.

In her morning press conference this Wednesday, February 16, Marina del Pilar announced that students will be coming back to their classrooms, and that Baja California’s epidemiological traffic light will soon change to be under yellow.

She stated that 100% in-person classes will occur swiftly in all education levels and that the Government of Baja California is ready to carry out this objective. This will happen thanks to its infrastructure, support from parents, and a strong coordination with teaches’ unions to recover education normalcy.

“One of the great challenges that we now have in Baja California is to have all students back in school, so that they recover that very important factor in their development which is their relationships with their classmates and close contact with their teachers,” she said.

Additionally, Marina del Pilar recognized the will and discipline of Baja Californian society by complying with sanitary measures, since it has caused a 50% decrease in infections.

She also reasserted the importance of the vaccines after almost two years since the beginning of the pandemic, since 98% of patients currently intubated due to Covid-19 in Baja California are unvaccinated. This shows that inoculations really do make a difference.

The State Governor also encouraged parents to begin preparing to go back to classes in all education levels and also reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to carry out the necessary actions so that all students have a positive reunion in school.

She also informed that on Thursday, February 17, Mexican President, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, will visit Baja California where he will head, for a second time, a National Security Meeting. He will also participate in another morning press conference and will tour the second floor of Playas de Tijuana Airport, as well as the progress in the Otay II Border Crossing construction in the Mexican side. Marina del Pilar thanked the President for his support and the commitment of Baja California with other Fourth Transformation (Cuarta Transformación) administrations.
